Default Anybody know about Engineering???

Hey PWAC,

I am currently building a large cold water unit. I have a 20HP Kolher engine, and a General TS 1021 pump. I havew been trying to calculate pulley sizes and what not, please help me. I doubt my formulas, and need a second opinion>>>

For 4.5 GPM @ 3000 PSI, th epump needs to have 1125 RPM. A gas motor has 3450 RPM.

3450/1125 = 3.066 so I have to have a 3.06:1
Pump pulley needs to be 3 times bigger then the motor pulley to get my speed, right?

The formula for correct pump speed is as follows:
Engine pulley X engine speed = Pump pulley X pump speed

So, the engine is 3450 and the pump is 1125. Figuring on a 3" engine pulley, it should look like this:
3450 X 3 = 1125 X ?
(3450 X 3) / 1125 = ?
10350 / 1125 = ?
9.2 = ?

So, yes, approximately 3X larger.
